Chennai: The Jallikattu competition has begun in Palamedu area of Madurai in Tamil Nadu on Saturday morning amid the growing havoc of corona infection across the country. Today is the second day of Jallikattu this game that controls bulls. In Madurai, a huge crowd is gathering for the second day. About 80 people, including competitors and bull owners, were injured in this risky game of controlling bulls on Pongal day on Friday.

According to reports, an 18-year-old spectator was cut off by a horn by a bull that erupted during the Jallikattu competition in Avaniapuram area on Friday, killing him. While during the game, around 80 people, including competitors and bull owners, were injured. According to a health official, a total of 80 people injured include 38 competitors, 24 bulls owner and 18 bystanders. 300 bulls were released inside the akhara on Friday amid applause and cheers in Avaniapuram village of Madurai district.

The Tamil Nadu government had approved the holding of jallikattu competition with 300 bulls and 150 spectators. However, hundreds of villagers gathered outside rooftops and barricades in Avaniapuram to watch these events on Friday. The government had stated in the order that the owners and their assistants of bulls who will register their cattle for the game would be required to show full vaccination certificates as well as negative reports of RT-PCR tests conducted a maximum of 48 hours before the programme.
