The Karnataka police has detained a man from Kerala, who allegedly harboured BJP youth wing leader Praveen Kumar Nettaru's killers, police sources said on Saturday. August 6.

As per statemnt by the source,  the accused who stayed in Uppala Sonkalu village was in direct connection with the killers and gave accomodation to them for two days. The accused had spoken to killers after the murder from his landlord's cellphone so as to avoid police attention.

He is expected to offer more information on killers and their plot against Praveen. Following a directive from the Union Home Ministry, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken control of the investigation.

The Chief Secretary of the Karnataka government and the DGP of the State Police Department have both received copies of the order from the Centre's Under Secretary, Vipul Alok.

The BJP, which is currently in power in Karnataka, was under intense pressure from all sides to turn over the case to the NIA. Hindu groups have rebelled against the ruling saffron party on the grounds that the establishment is taking a soft stance. Further, the activists besieged the home of the Home Minister, severely embarrassing the BJP government.

Investigations have revealed that Praveen was killed over his campaign against halal chopped meat. Praveen had solid relationships with all groups of people in the area, including minorities. The investigation is also looking into whether the murder was related to the recent killings of Muslim youngsters in the area.

Soon after Praveen's killing, a gang of miscreants reportedly hacked a Muslim youth to death and confessed in the probe that they killed to avenge Praveen's murder.
