Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 14 (NT): Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday stated that the National Democratic Alliance government's 'One Nation, One Election' move is a disaster in a row  to elections.

He was addressing an event here, and said that by supporting 'One Nation, One Election', you are denying yourself the ability to impose some responsibility of the executive.

He added that 'One Nation, One Election' proposal is the debacle in successive elections in the last 12 months but has made the present Prime Minister more aware of the concerns of farmers, unemployed,  and rural landless labour

He further criticized this move of BJP and said if you have had One nation, One election, you elect somebody and then for the next five years you have no chance whatsoever of making your voice heard.

Criticizing the BJP proposal, the Congress leader further alleged, "You have to suffer for five years if you have one nation one election."

There is an extensive guesswork that One Nation, One Election may be executed following Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah and other prominent political leaders having earlier indications of making a better electoral system in the nation. (NT)
