NEW DELHI: The Modi government's ambitious plan 'One Country, One Ration Card' scheme has begun on Friday. Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan launched the scheme. As a pilot project, the scheme has been launched in two cluster states of Andhra Pradesh-Telangana and Maharashtra-Gujarat. Now residents of Telangana and Telangana residents of Andhra Pradesh can get food grains from any ration shop in Andhra Pradesh. A similar rule will apply to the people of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Gradually, the central government will implement the scheme across the country. Once the scheme is implemented across the country, the beneficiaries will be able to get their share of food grains from any ration shop in any state across the country. The government aims to implement the 'one country, one ration card' scheme across the country by June 2020. Even in the last week of June, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan had held a meeting with all states and union territories and gave one year's time to implement the scheme.

The scheme is being launched on the lines of 'one country-one tax'. If a poor person moves from one place to another after the scheme is implemented, he will not have any problem getting ration. The scheme will also help in curbing bogus ration cards.
