Hyderabad: In an attempt to eliminate the role of intermediaries, the Transport Department has started booking online numbers under the pilot project in 2020. Now telangana transport department has expanded online booking (e-bidding process) of fancy registration numbers in some rta offices including medchal, ibrahimpatnam, kondapur, ranga reddy.

For fancy registration numbers like 1,9,999 and 9999, vehicle owners have to pay about Rs 50,000. Similarly, there are many numbers such as 99, 555, 666, 777, 888, which pay a basic fee of Rs.30,000 as a fixed fee.

Now any applicant can book the fancy number by quoting the price for the desired number. The applicant should submit the application stating the price at 1 pm. RTA officials will open online bids at 3 pm and the highest bidder will be informed via SMS.

No body knows the whole process. Middlemen have no role in fancy numbers transaction. The vehicle owner will have to pay the fee after successful bidding and show the vehicle to the authorities within 15 days, the official said.
