Srinagar: National Conference (NC) leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that had it been known that the rights of Muslims would not be protected in India, then the decision regarding the merger of Kashmir with India would have been different. Abdullah says that we had given approval for the merger thinking that all religions are respected in India. But seeing the situation today, it seems that there is only one religion here.

Abdullah also reacted sharply to the issue of loudspeakers in mosques. He said that why should there not be loudspeakers in the mosque. We have never objected to the mike of temples and gurudwaras. On Halal meat, Abdullah said what is wrong with it. There is a belief in our religion to eat it. We didn't force anyone else to eat halal meat. If we do not believe what our religion says, then it will be completely wrong.

Abdullah further said that everyone in this country has the freedom to practice their religion. It is written in our constitution that we are secular country. This means that all religions are equal here. They don't think any government should tamper with it. He said that playing with such danger can create problems for the country. We would like that such decisions should not be taken. People of all sects are free to practice their own religion.
