Ahmedabad: As many as 231 Indians, including 208 Gujarat residents, who were evacuated from strife-torn Sudan under the Centre’s ‘Operation Kaveri’, landed at Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday, May 2nd, said a State Government official.
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, who handles the Non-Resident Gujarati division of the State Government, greeted these Indians at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport upon their arrival in Ahmedabad from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on a special flight, said the official.
These 231 Indians consist of 208 Gujarat residents, 13 from Punjab and 10 from Rajasthan, the official said.
As part of "Operation Kaveri," India has been busing its nationals from Khartoum's combat zones and other difficult places to Port Sudan, where they are then transported to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah by heavy-lift transport aircraft and ships from the Indian Air Force.
The Indians are being flown home from Jeddah on either commercial or IAF aircraft.
The Indian embassy in Khartoum has been coordinating with the separate control rooms it has established in Jeddah and Port Sudan in addition to staying in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs' central office in Delhi.
The army of Sudan and a paramilitary group have been engaged in deadly warfare that has reportedly claimed 400 lives.

Sudan has been seeing deadly fighting between the country’s army and a paramilitary group that has reportedly left around 400 people dead.
