Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has demanded an immediate ban on opinion polls (Opinion Polls) broadcast on some news channels from the Election Commission (EC). In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, the party claimed that the telecast of opinion polls was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and could confuse voters and influence elections.

SP State Unit President Naresh Uttam Patel has written in his letter that the dates for uttar pradesh assembly elections 2022 elections that have been announced on January 8, 2022, the first phase of nominations has also been completed. The state will go to polls in 7 phases, the last phase of polling will be held on March 7, 2022, when counting will take place on March 10, 2022, but many news channels are showing opinion polls, confusing voters, and affecting elections. This act is a blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Patel has demanded that the opinion polls being shown by news channels be banned with immediate effect EC to conduct free, fair, fearless elections. At the same time, the SP has written to the Election Commission complaining that BJP candidates are violating the Model Code of Conduct in Kairana, Shamli and other places.

On the other hand, UP BJP unit spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi termed it as frustration towards SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. He has said that sometimes SP leaders question the fairness of the Election Commission, and sometimes he cries out for his weakness during the election campaign through digital means. Now, he's demanding that opinion polls be halted. He said the reality is that he is feeling disturbed by the popularity of PM Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
