New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha encountered yet another adjournment on Tuesday, extending till 12 noon due to the persistent protests from the Opposition regarding the Manipur violence debate. As the House assembled at 11 am, the protests erupted soon after the papers were laid on the table.

The Opposition has remained steadfast in their demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the Manipur violence and a comprehensive discussion under rule 267. However, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected their request, citing a precedent from 2014. Dhankhar had already allocated two-and-a-half hours for discussing the Manipur violence.

Faced with the Chairman's refusal, the Opposition members resorted to slogans and protests. Amidst the clamor, the Chairman announced the adjournment of the House until 12 noon. Meanwhile, in the Lok Sabha, opposition members also protested during the Question Hour, leading to an adjournment until 2 pm.

The Monsoon Session, which began on July 20, has been plagued with disruptions and adjournments over the Manipur issue in both Houses of Parliament. The Opposition continues to stand firm on their demand for a debate and a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
