Imphal: A delegation of 21 opposition MPs from the INDIA alliance visited Manipur and submitted a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey, urging immediate measures to restore peace and harmony in the violence-hit state. The memorandum highlighted the "pathetic condition" of relief camps and pointed out the "complete breakdown of law and order," indicating the failure of both the Central and state governments.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the delegation criticized his silence on the situation in Manipur, which witnessed over 140 deaths, 500 injuries, burning of more than 5,000 houses, and internal displacement of more than 60,000 people. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh expressed concern about the Prime Minister's indifference to the plight of Manipur's people, contrasting it with his focus on his radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat.'

During their visit to relief camps in Churachandpur, Moirang, and Imphal, the delegation interacted with the victims and inmates, witnessing the devastating impact of the violence. They emphasized that the state machinery had failed to control the situation for nearly three months, with reports of continuous firing and arson.

The delegation appealed to the government to prioritize the rehabilitation and resettlement of affected individuals for bringing peace and harmony. They also urged the Union Government to intervene in the crisis and address the national security concerns arising from the situation in Manipur.

After meeting with Governor Uikey, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated that the Governor suggested working together to find a solution for Manipur. He expressed the delegation's commitment to put pressure on the Central Government during Parliament sessions to address the issues raised by the people and the deficiencies observed in both the Central and State Governments' response to the crisis. The opposition delegation further called for immediate acceptance and discussion of the No Confidence Motion to address the worsening situation in Manipur.
