NEW DELHI: The opposition will push for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)  in the Adani-Hindenburg row on Friday, while the BJP wants Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, to retract his words from his speech in London.

The opposition MPs have proposed adjournment notices for the Lok Parliament and suspension of business notices under rule 267 for the Rajya Sabha. The government is being cornered by the opposition, which is led by the Congress.

The BJP is been keeping the matter alive, and the treasury benches have been interrogating Rahul Gandhi about his address in London and demanding an apology.

"Opposition is united on the demand of JPC and anything contrary to this is false," said Jairam Ramesh, the general in-charge of the Congress. On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi claimed that he visited Parliament and that four Ministers had levelled accusations against him there. According to sources in the Party, hearing Gandhi speak in Parliament should come first. Until the session is through, he will try to meet the Speaker every day. The sources stated that if he is not permitted, he will speak to the media to express his opinions.

"It is proper that I be permitted to speak on the House floor. I asked the Speaker to speak today. I went to his room and asked for him. I remarked, "Look, I would really like to speak. I informed him that the BJP had levelled accusations against me and that I had a right to respond as a parliamentarian "said Gandhi.

Earlier on March 15, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey demanded the constitution of a special parliamentary committee to inquire into Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's "contemptuous" remarks and consider if he should be expelled from the House to give a clear message so that "no one takes the pride and respect of high institutions for a ride".

It came weeks after Adani Group stocks took a beating on the stock exchanges in the wake of US-based short seller Hindenburg Research making a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share-price manipulation, on the conglomerate.
