CHENNAI: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and ousted AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has filed a complaint with the Madras High Court against the election to the post of party's general secretary.

The elections were a "sham," the former chief minister said. On Sunday morning, the plea will probably be heard as an urgent issue by Judge Kumaresh Babu.

Since nominations for the position of party general secretary must be submitted by Sunday at 3 p.m., an urgent hearing is requested. O. Panneerselvam makes the urgent request in order to prevent Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) from becoming the party general secretary.

Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), the temporary general secretary of the AIADMK, submitted his nominations for the March 26 general election. He was accompanied by senior AIADMK members Natham R. Viswanathan and Pollachi V. Jayaraman as he submitted his candidature paperwork.

Applicants may submit their nominations starting on March 18 and continuing through March 19 at 3 p.m. On March 20, nominations will be carefully reviewed.

An official release said that candidates can withdraw the nominations on March 21. Counting of votes will be undertaken on March 27.

Police in the meanwhile have tightned security at the AIADMK headquarters as applications are now being accepted for the position of general secretary.

The Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Madras High Court division bench's ruling from September 2 to validate the AIADMK general council meeting of July 11, 2022, led to the decision to start holding elections for the position of general secretary.
