Guwahati: Speaking to the media, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Some people from poor, landless families have collected Rs 28 lakh, adding that they are going to persuade the government and there will be no eviction. We will register a case against the eviction drive. We have evidence. When they could not, they mobilized people and created havoc on that particular day," Dr Sarma said. Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government has found evidence of the involvement of at least six people in the Gorukhuti violence incident.

“We have the names of six people, about whom there is intelligence that Rs 28 lakh was deposited in the name of carrying food items to the displaced families. The PFI had visited the site on the day of the incident. Now some people are involved in this. Evidence is coming out. It includes a lecturer from a college in Assam. Evictions were done against 60 families, and 10 thousand people came," the chief minister added.

Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the firing incident in Dhalpur area of Darrang district of Assam. Earlier in the day, additional superintendent of police of Darang district, Rupam Phukan, while addressing the media, said that the authority initiated action only after the local people started pelting stones at the police.
