Bhubaneswar: A case of vandalism of 40 earthen stoves in the kitchen of Odisha's Jagannath Puri temple has come to light. The incident has come to light on Sunday (April 3, 2022). It is being told that the stoves that were vandalised were present in the world's largest kitchen Rosa-Ghar. They were used to make 'Mahaprasad'. District Collector Samarth Verma visited the spot after receiving information about the breakdown of the stove. He said that 40 hearths of Rosa-Ghar have been vandalised. He has asked for an inquiry into this and a report to be given.

He has assured that strict action will be taken against those who committed the incident. According to the Records of Rights, this temple dates back to the 12th (1161 CE) century. It has 240 stoves. Of these, 40 stoves have been vandalised. Only cooks are allowed to enter the kitchen. In such a situation, it is suspected that the incident may not have been committed by some servants on Saturday. Questions are also being raised on the security of the temple after the incident. It takes about 400 cooks to make the Mahaprasad of the temple and 200 assistants are directly engaged in this process. These offerings are sold in the Anand market.

It is estimated that the incident took place after the evening aarti and after the Rajbhog. The district collector said that they are scanning CCTV footage to nab the accused. Police and temple administration will jointly investigate the matter. It will take two days to normalize the stoves that have been damaged. According to information, one or two Kotha stoves have been damaged in this incident, the rest is in good condition. In such a situation, there was no problem in making the temple's prasad. Just the morning offering was half an hour late. But the incident has hurt the sentiments of devotees.
