New Delhi: There are a large number of people in the country who cannot afford expensive treatment. In such a situation, a doctor from Odisha has set an example of humanity by opening a 'one rupee' clinic. This has been started by Dr. Shankar Ramchandani of the Department of Medicine at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. The important thing is that after completing their duties in the institute, they run these clinics separately to treat the poor and the underprivileged.

According to Dr. Ramchandani, he always had a desire to open such a clinic. However, till now he was Senior Resident Doctor, due to this he could not practice himself. But recently, Dr. Ramchandani was promoted to Assistant Professor. Being an assistant professor, he can pursue private practice after completing his duty time. In such a situation, he started a 'one rupee' clinic in his rented house last Friday. On the first day, 33 patients reached this clinic.

Dr. Ramchandani says that he takes one rupee from patients because he does not want to let them feel that treatment is being done for free. This clinic opened in the raw market of Burla is open from 7 to 8 in the morning and from 6 to 7 in the evening. Dr. Ramchandani says that he has been watching hundreds of people standing in lines in the OPD of the hospital, including the elderly and the disabled. This inspired Dr. Ramchandani to open this clinic.
