Bhubaneswar: Odisha has reported 1,864 new corona cases in the last 24 hours. After which the number of corona cases in the state has increased to 9,65,715. The death toll from the virus has now reached 5,445 in the state after 68 people died. The health official informed that 1,082 new cases were reported from quarantine centres, while the remaining 782 cases were found during contact tracing.

The higher positivity rate in Odisha remains a major cause of concern for the state government. The positivity rate in Cuttack on Friday was 5.18 per cent, Khurda 4.34 per cent and Kendrapara 3.43 per cent and it is also showing a sharp increase. Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, has reported the highest number of 496 new cases. This has been followed by 221 cases in Cuttack and 114 in Balasore.

Moreover, the highest number of deaths (30) occurred in Khurda district during the last 24 hours, out of which 23 deaths have been reported from Bhubaneswar alone. This has been followed by 11 deaths in Puri and 8 in Angul. C.B.K. Mohanty, Chief Professor, Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) said, "The positivity rate in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack is high as both these cities are the health, commercial and administrative centres of the state. Meanwhile, 53 other patients with corona virus have so far lost their lives due to comurbidity.
