Lucknow:  The Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 was very important in many ways. While BJP has returned to power with a thumping majority, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party has to face electoral defeat for the second time in a row. For the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), this time the assembly elections are no less than a bad dream. Congress had contested this time's assembly election under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The party had fielded candidates on 399 seats, entering the election field on its own.

But, the fact to be noted is that out of 399 Congress candidates, 387 got forfeited. Only 12 candidates were able to save their deposits. Let us tell you that the Congress has won only 2 seats in the 2022 UP elections. On the other hand, Mayawati's BSP had fielded candidates in all 403 assembly seats, out of which 290 candidates could not even save their deposits. In this election, the Congress even lagged behind the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in terms of vote share. The country's oldest political party could win only 2 seats with 2.4 percent vote share.

Let us tell you that the Congress contested the 2017 assembly elections in alliance with the SP. Congress had fought the election this time alone. Congressmen hoped that the party could benefit under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. However, his hope turned out to be just hope. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigned relentlessly in the state, even holding the highest number of road shows and rallies in the state, but failed to bring the party significant success.
