Mumbai: Today there is an election for 6 Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Earlier, Asaduddin Owaisi's party (AIMIM) has announced to vote for the candidate of Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi. However, AIMIM MLAs will vote for Congress candidate Imran Pratapgarhi. AIMIM MP from Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Imtiaz Jaleel tweeted the party's decision ahead of voting. He told that AIMIM MLAs will vote for the candidate of Mahavikas Aghadi. AIMIM has 2 MLAs in the 288-seat Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel said, "Our party has decided to vote for Maha Vikas Aghadi's candidate in Rajya Sabha to defeat BJP. Our ideology will remain separate from Shiv Sena, which is in alliance with MVA Congress and NCP," he said. Referring to Asaduddin Owaisi, he said that our 2 MLAs will vote for Congress candidate Imran Pratapgarhi.

Jalil said that his party has put before the government the developmental conditions in both Dhule and Malegaon seats. The AIMIM has also urged the government to take steps to appoint minority members in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) and increase the income of the Maharashtra Waqf Board. Another condition put by the party is regarding reservation for Muslims. Rajya Sabha elections are to be held on 6 seats in Maharashtra. Here the role of independents is considered important in the 6th seat. Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance has fielded 4 candidates in Maharashtra. Whereas BJP has fielded 3 candidates. To win a Rajya Sabha seat in Maharashtra, 42 MLAs are needed.
