New Delhi: Several parts of the country have undergone a drastic change in the recent past, while the National Task Force of top medical experts constituted by the Supreme Court to create a system of allocation of oxygen to states and Union Territories has advised that the country should have additional reserves of oxygen gas for two-three weeks consumption on the lines of arrangements for petroleum products. The 12-member NTF also informed that all hospitals should have additional reserves to deal with emergencies and set up oxygen care committees of senior staff.
The Supreme Court had on May 6 constituted the NTF to create a system of allocation of oxygen to save the lives of corona patients and strengthen the public health system to deal with the epidemic. We should have additional oxygen reserves in the country to meet the consumption of two to three weeks, such as arrangements are made for petroleum products, NTF said. Similarly, all hospitals should have additional reserves to deal with emergencies.
In order to start the supply of liquid medical oxygen on the basis of existing and proposed demands due to the same epidemic, the Committee said that there is a need to increase the storage capacity of about 20 percent in the state to allocate more than the basic demand for allocation to the states with increasing corona cases. Efforts should be made to further increase the production of LMO in preparation for the next epidemic, the committee said.
