NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will hear today the petition filed by P Chidambaram, who is involved in the INX media case. Chidambaram had approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. A bench headed by Justice R Bhanumati will also hear Chidambaram's latest plea challenging the lower court's decision to issue arrest warrants and remand him to CBI custody by Monday.
The apex court had on Friday granted relief to Chidambaram from his arrest till Monday in a money laundering case. The bench had sought response from the Enforcement Directorate in the case and directed it to list the three cases on Monday. Earlier, the Apex Court had refused to hear the plea challenging the High Court judgement on 20th and 21st of this month, after which Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI on the night of August 21.
On August 22, he was produced before a trial court from where he was remanded to four-day CBI custody. In the INX media case, the former Finance Minister is alleged to have taken bribes in the case. His sons are also under investigation in the case. Chidambaram's arrest was dramatic by the CBI. Congress calls it a retaliatory action. On the other hand, BJP said that everything is happening in accordance with the court order.
