New Delhi: A special court in Delhi has given a big blow to the former finance minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram. Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has allowed the Enforcement Directorate to arrest and interrogate P. Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case. The court allowed the Enforcement Directorate to detain P. Chidambaram for 30 minutes. The ED will interrogate him in Delhi's Tihar Jail tomorrow. On the demand for arrest and interrogation of Chidambaram in the court itself, the court told the ED that if you want to arrest him (P Chidambaram) in public and question him, it will not be dignified.

The court issued a production warrant on the application of the Enforcement Directorate and directed Chidambaram to produce it. Special CBI Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar had reserved the verdict till 4 pm on Tuesday after hearing the arguments of ED and the defence. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had asked the court for permission to arrest Chidambaram, stating that money laundering in the INX case is different from the CBI case and that he needs to be arrested and questioned. The Supreme Court has also given its consent on this matter. On the other hand, opposing the ED's plea, senior advocate Kapil Sibal had said that the entire case is one and the entire ED case is based on the CBI's FIR. There is no justification for giving custody to the ED when the CBI has made inquiries.
