P Chidambaram slammed the Kamal Nath government on cow slaughter in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has termed the use of NSA, against 3 persons arrested on charges of cow slaughter, wrong. He also said that the Congress high command to pointed it out to the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh and added that "if a mistake has been committed, that mistake has been pointed out by the party leadership." After appealing NSA against three persons accused of cow slaughter in Khandwa district, the MP government booked two men from Agar Malwa district for illegally transporting cattle and disrupting public peace on Friday.

According to source reports, Mahboob Khan from Ujjain district, and Rodmal Malviya, a resident of Agar Malwa were arrest and later released on bail. As per the cops, both of them are repeat offenders and have been booked many times in the past. This is the second time that NSA has been imposed in the state after the Kamal Nath-led Congress government came to power in Madhya Pradesh.

While the Congress defended the imposition of NSA saying that the state was particularly sensitive to such issues, many aired their concern against the stringent law and its subsequent use by the Congress government. Apart from Chidambaram, senior Congress leader and former state CM Digvijaya Singh had also said that invoking NSA was unnecessary in that case.

The state government is also planning to open 1,000 cow shelters by May this year for which it will spend Rs 450 crore. The scheme was announced by CM Kamal Nath recently were he said that people would also be able to adopt a cow from the shelter.
