Padma Lakshmi Becomes Kerala's First Transgender Lawyer

KOCHI: 'God's own country' Kerala got its first transgender lawyer after Padma Lakshmi was "enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of the state."

Lakshmi graduated from Ernakulam Government Law College. After her graduation, she appeared for the Bar Council examination. She  has now written her name in record books by becoming the first transgender person to don the black robes in the state.

congratulating her, Kerala Law Minister P. Rajeev took to his social media account and wrote . Greetings to Padma Lakshmi, who overcame all the hurdles of life and enrolled as the first transgender advocate in Kerala. Becoming the first is always the hardest achievement in history. There are no predecessors on the way to the goal. Obstacles will be inevitable and, there will be people to mute and discourage. Padma Lakshmi has written her name in the legal history by overcoming all this"Her achievement and her success will be a morale booster to the transgender community as a whole," he said.

Lakshmi's enrolment comes 6 years after Joyita Mondal was named as India's first transgender just in Lok Adalat of Islampur in West Bengal in 2017.
