Pakistan: According to the report, one of the legislation passed by the Pakistan Parliament's joint session calls for a persistent rapist to be punished by "chemical castration." The Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, and the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, will be amended by the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2021.
"Chemical castration is a process duly notified by rules framed by the Prime Minister, whereby a person is rendered incapable of performing sexual intercourse for any period of his life, as determined by the court, through administration of drugs which shall be conducted through a notified medial board," according to the bill passed on Wednesday.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of the Jamaat-i-Islami denounced the bill, calling it un-Islamic and contrary to Sharia law. According to the reports, he said a rapist should be publicly hanged, but Sharia does not include castration. Among the bills enacted during the joint sitting was the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Bill, 2021, which provides for the establishment of special courts and the use of modern equipment during the investigation and trial of rape cases.
