Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refused to extend the service to Pakistan cricket team's head coach Mickey Arthur. Coach Arthur, as well as his support staff, have been removed. These include mainly bowling coach Azhar Mahmood and batting coach Grant Flower. In addition, coach Grant Luden's contract has also been terminated. In the World Cup, Pakistan had failed to reach the semi-finals.

Earlier this month, the Pakistan Cricket Board had invited Captain Sarfraz Ahmed as well as the entire coaching staff to review the performance in the World Cup. Media reports say the board now wants to give opportunities to new faces. Their names have not come up so far. Mickey Arthur was appointed coach of the Pak team in 2016. His term is till 15th August.

The main achievement in his term was the victory in the Champions Trophy 2017 in the Pak team. Arthur is also eyeing to become the coach of the England team. England's current coach Traver Bellis is scheduled to step down after the Ashes series. In the World Cup 2019, the Pak team could not qualify for the semi-finals. Sarfraz's captaincy was in fifth place.

Even before the team returned home, Pakistan Cricket Board CEO Wasim Khan had made it clear that the performance of the team and coaching staff would be reviewed. Several former players had questioned Mickey Arthur and the support staff as well as captain Sarfraz Ahmed. Chief selector Inzamam ul Haq has already submitted his resignation.
