At least one policeman was killed and two were injured when an explosive device fell near a police mobile van deployed to protect polio workers in Pakistan's Bakhtunkhwa province. This country's first nationwide polio vaccination campaign started on Monday. Its goal was to immunize around 39.6 million children. About 265,000 polio workers are involved in the campaign, who send children under the age of five years. Dawn News said the incident took place in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan town in the province, where the van was deployed to protect polio personnel. A policeman was killed in the blast and two injured have been sent to the district headquarters hospital, where their condition is said to be stable.
Regarding this incident, the police said that the area has been sealed, while the search operation is on. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Explain that earlier this month, the National Institute of Health has confirmed five more polio cases from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Last year, 144 cases were registered nationwide, 12 in 2018 and eight in 2017.
