New Delhi: Pakistan has announced to hold elections on November 15 for the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly even after India expressed strong objections. Strategically, the election was postponed earlier in the region. President Dr Arif Alvi has issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday.

"The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan declares that general elections will be held in the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly on Sunday, November 15, 2020, under Section 57(1) of the Elections Act 2017," the statement said.  Earlier, India had told Pakistan that the entire territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Union territory, including Gilgit Baltistan, had been fully legal and permanent in India, hence an integral part of India. India said the Government of Pakistan or its judiciary has no authority over areas that were illegally occupied by them.

It said that India completely rejects such action and India putting efforts to make concrete changes in the areas occupied by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir. Rather, Pakistan should immediately vacate these areas illegally occupied.
