Islamabad: Pakistan hailed the Friday normalisation of ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran as a "important diplomatic breakthrough" and praised China for its assistance in bringing about the agreement.

In a deal mediated by the Chinese government, the two Middle Eastern nations decided to mend fences and reopen diplomatic missions.

A trilateral statement announcing the development mentioned the reopening of embassies within two months as well as the resumption of bilateral cooperation in other areas.

Pakistan is adamant that this significant diplomatic achievement will promote peace and stability in the region and beyond, according to a statement from the foreign office. "We applaud China's visionary leadership for its role in bringing about this historic agreement, which demonstrates the value of meaningful engagement and dialogue," the statement reads.

In response to the development, the foreign office praised the "sagacious leadership" of Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The statement continued, "Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in the Middle East and the region with a history of consistently supporting and coordinating efforts for bridging gaps between the two brotherly countries. "We hope that this constructive action will establish a model for peace and cooperation in the region."

Recall that the kingdom decided to sever diplomatic ties with Iran in 2016 after demonstrators attacked Saudi diplomatic missions there.

Other nations hailed Friday's agreement as a win for the region and the culmination of several rounds of negotiations between the two Middle Eastern nations.
