Pakistan: The new financial distribution model for the International Cricket Council (ICC), which was unanimously agreed following the ICC Board Meeting earlier in July, was met with disapproval by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday, July 17. The financial distribution model item was tabled on Thursday, July 13 despite the PCB's request that it be postponed until the following ICC Board Meeting because the majority of the members supported the new plan.

Although the ICC media statement omitted to mention the amount of revenue that the BCCI will generate from the new distribution scheme, PTI news agency reports that the Indian board is anticipated to receive USD 230 million annually from the USD 600 million pot for the following four years.

It is almost 38.4% higher and at least six times as much as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which will earn nearly USD 41 million at a 6.89% rate, and Cricket Australia (CA), who will receive approximately USD 37.53 million at a 6.25% rate. They are much behind first and second on the list.

"PCB, in accordance with its constitutional right, has over the past few weeks and at the ICC Meetings, consistently sought additional information to better understand the rationale behind the allocation of weightages to each of the criteria and the calculation of the distributions. The PCB felt in the absence of all relevant information, data and formulae, such a significant decision should not be taken in haste," PCB said in a statement on Monday.

"The PCB, therefore, proposed that this item may be deferred to the next ICC meeting.

"Ultimately, the majority of members did not find it feasible to defer this item and voted in favour of passing the Model, while the PCB recorded its dissent as a matter principle," it added.

The Pakistan Cricket Board asserted that the new ICC income model will result in it receiving twice the share it had in the prior cycle.

"Consequently, due to the Pakistan cricket team’s performance in men’s ICC events and in bilateral cricket, the PCB’s own huge fan-base, which leads to significant commercial value, the PCB was ranked amongst the top-four nations in this Model. As such, the PCB will receive more than two times the revenue when compared to the last cycle," the PCB said.

Although the amounts were not included in the release, an ICC board member acknowledged that the BCCI received its due compensation for its commitment to the development of the sport and that each member will receive much more money in the following cycle.

"All members will receive a base distribution and then additional revenue will be in relation to contribution to the global game both on and off the field," ICC chairman Greg Barclay said.
