PAKISTAN: Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan will be detained any time on February 20 in connection with a prohibited funding case, a report read.

As per reports by the Pakistani news channel ARY, a 4-member panel has been formed for the arrest, while a summary has been forwarded to the Director General   Federal Investigation Agency for final approval. The former PM will be arrested by the agency with the help of Lahore police.

After the news surfaced, several supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf gathered around his house to stage a protest. Meanwhile, police forces have also been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.

Khan and eleven other people have been the target of prosecution for allegedly collecting foreign funds while also breaking the Foreign Exchange Act. A party founding member first brought the lawsuit in 2014, alleging major financial irregularities in the party's funding. The case was reported to the FIA Corporate Banking Circle in 2021.

A scrutiny committee was established in 2018 to look into the party's funding; 95 hearings and nearly four years later, the report was finally turned in. According to the investigation, the party's leadership allowed the receipt of funds from foreigners without disclosing the source or any other information, which constituted flagrant violations of the fundraising laws. In the meantime, the party has denied any wrongdoing.

How the case will develop and how it will affect Imran Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party's future are both unknown.
