Islamabad: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with his counterpart Qatar's Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jasim Al Thani in Doha and on many more broad topics, including the Afghan peace process and ongoing tensions in the Middle East. discussed. According to media reports, Qureshi arrived in Doha on Saturday after completing his three-day tour to the US.

Commending Qureshi's visit to Doha, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman acknowledged Pakistan's efforts in facilitating the Afghan peace process and promoting peace in the region. Qureshi's visit was because the United States and the Taliban are expected to reach an agreement by the end of January, and are also prepared to ease military operations before signing the deal.

During the meeting, Qureshi has said that Islamabad's mediating role in restoring peace in Afghanistan has been accepted by international communities and hoped that the years-old conflict in this war-torn country is nearing its end. The two leaders also stressed the need to reduce tensions in the Middle East through diplomatic means, which has intensified after the top Iranian commander General Qasim Suleimani was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq on 3 January.
