The day-night test matches will return to the calendar in the upcoming Australian summer as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to Cricket Australia’ wishes. This day-night test will be the first of the two consecutive pink ball tests with the second being the series opener between Australia and New Zealand in Perth. Australia and New Zealand are scheduled to compete in a three-Test match series. As per the report of The Sydney Morning Herald, the second Test between Australia and Pakistan in Adelaide will be played under lights with the pink ball.

Cricket Australia (CA) and PCB held high-level talks in the past few weeks for the Adelaide fixture. An idea of a third Test was also floated but was not accepted due to a packed calendar for Australia. Apart from the two Tests, Pakistan and Australia will also compete in a three-match T20I series.

PCB managing director Wasim Khan told The Herald, "The dialogue between CA and the PCB was around what we would need to do to make that tour happen." He added, "We also know there's a lot of bilateral cricket to be played before that. We need to continue to evidence security measures we can put in place. All things being well we can pick up dialogue in early 2022."

For the first time in 40 years, there will be no home ODI series in Australia due to the series in India in January following the Sydney Test.
