Islamabad: At least 30 people lost their lives and over 50 others were injured when a bomb exploded at a crowded Shi'ite mosque during Friday prayers in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar. An official said the blast took place at the Jamia Masjid in Peshawar's Qissa Khwani Bazar area when namazis were offering Friday prayers.
However, so far, no terror group has claimed responsibility for the blast. Asim Khan, media manager of Lady Reading, said 30 bodies have been brought to the hospital so far, dawn reported. Officials said the condition of 10 injured people is said to be serious.
Peshawar city police officer Ejaz Ahsan said two attackers had tried to enter the mosque and opened fire on the guarding policemen. He said one policeman was killed in the firing while the other was seriously injured. He said the blast took place after the shooting.
