Islamabad: Pakistan reports coronavirus cases crossing over five lakh. The country has been finding it difficult in controlling the spread of the highly-contagious disease amid a limited supply of vaccines.
While other countries have started their vaccination drive. According to the Ministry of National Health Services, Pakistan has so far reported over 5,45,000 coronavirus cases and more than 11,600 deaths. Earlier this week, a top Pakistan minister had said that the country will launch its vaccination drive against coronavirus next week. In a tweet “The system for vaccination is in place. Hundreds of vaccination centers in the country will be administering the corona vaccine. God willing, the vaccination of frontline health workers will start next week,” Minister for Planning Asad Umar who is heading National Command and Operation Center said on Wednesday. Pakistan has approved three vaccines for emergency use, including the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, Chinese China National Pharmaceutical Group, and Russian-developed Sputnik V.
China has promised to deliver China around 5,00,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine to the country free of cost before the end of January. India already has launched its much-anticipated inoculation drive at 3,006 session sites across all states and Union territories on January 16. The drive began days after the Drugs Controller General of India gave its nod to Covishield and indigenously developed Covaxin of Bharat Biotech.
