Srinagar: Once back on the Line of Control, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling targeting Indian Army posts as well as residential areas in Mendhar sub-Dawjan of Poonch district, violating the ceasefire in Mendhar and Mankot sector. During the visit, Pakistani troops launched a PHC at Dabraj, a village bordering the Line of Control. The Primary Health Center also attacked.

Several mortars fell in the firing causing considerable damage to the PHC building. Farid Ahmed, in-charge of the PHC, says that for the first time Pakistan has targeted the PHC and fired shells, causing considerable damage to the building. According to the information received, at around 11 pm on Thursday afternoon, the Pakistani troops suddenly started firing in Mankot and Mendhar sector of Mendhar Sub Division of the district in violation of the ceasefire. The Indian army retaliated the shelling which lasted for about an hour.

Sections 370 and 35A were removed from Jammu and Kashmir on August 5. On the same day, mobile calling and mobile internet services were suspended in Poonch as a precautionary measure.
