Pakistan tribal court firing: 9 killed, 20 injured

Islamabad: Nine people were killed and twenty others injured in a firing between multiple groups while attending a session of a Jirga, the local tribal court, in Pakistan's Upper Dir district, police sources said.

According to repots, the incident took place on Monday, September 20,  when the groups gathered in the court to settle a dispute about a road to be constructed on their lands, Laal Bahadar, a station house officer in the district. "During the court hearing, a heated discussion started between the two groups which got worse and they pulled out their guns at each other, followed by a serious exchange of firing," said the official. 

Police rushed to the site following the incident, he said, adding that perpetrators of the brawl are being identified by the police. All the injured and the bodies were taken to the District headquarters Hospital (DHQ) where the medics declared nine people dead. The rest of them were admitted to be treated for their wounds. As per Tribune Pakistan, five out of those admitted were in critical condition. Furthermore, he said that the police have commenced a probe into the whole incident and are looking for culprits.
