Islamabad: Asad Umar, the head of Pakistan's National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), which oversees the country's anti-Covid-19 campaign, urged Pakistanis to get completely vaccinated to defend themselves against the new Omicron version of Covid-19 on Monday.

"Previous experiences show that it can spread across the world, including Pakistan," Umar, who is also the Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, said at a press conference in Islamabad. "Because the world is so interconnected, it is impossible to stop any new variant from spreading." According to the Minister, becoming completely vaccinated is currently the most sensible way to combat the threat of the Omicron variety.

According to reports, the Minister indicated that the Pakistani government will commence a nationwide vaccination programme this week, and that the number of daily tests will also increase as more resources are invested. He says that 50 million Pakistanis have been fully vaccinated. The NCOC has announced that beginning Saturday, entries from specific countries, including South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia, will be suspended due to the Omicron variant.
