Peshawar: A commander of a Daesh group and two other militants were killed by Pakistani security forces on Wednesday during a raid on a militant hideout close to the Afghan border, according to the military.

According to the military, the raid was carried out in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province's Bajur district, which borders Afghanistan.

It claimed that Shafi Ullah, the leader of Daesh, was one of the three militants killed. He was sought after by the government of Pakistan, which claims he was responsible for attacks on security personnel and the deaths of innocent civilians.

The military reported that security forces had also taken weapons and ammo from the hideout and were clearing the area.

In recent years, Pakistan's military has conducted extensive operations in the tribal region near the Afghan border, which for decades served as a haven for both domestic and foreign militants. Attacks are still being carried out in the area by militants, though.
