As per the latest updates, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has condemned the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh as a "cowardly act." The attack, which occurred on July 30, has prompted calls for unity among Palestinians and heightened tensions in the region.
President Abbas's office issued a statement strongly denouncing the killing, describing it as a serious escalation and a cowardly act. Abbas urged Palestinians to stay united and resilient against Israeli actions. He emphasized the need for patience and solidarity in the face of the ongoing conflict.
The Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guard has reported that Haniyeh was killed in Iran, following his attendance at the inauguration of Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian. While Hamas claims that an Israeli airstrike was responsible, the Revolutionary Guard is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Senior Hamas officials have vowed retaliation. Musa Abu Marzuk, a member of Hamas's political bureau, stated that the assassination will not go unanswered and labeled it a cowardly act. Sami Abu Zuhri, another senior Hamas official, suggested that the assassination aims to undermine Hamas's resolve and the will of the Palestinian people, but he assured that Hamas would continue its struggle regardless of the sacrifices involved.
Yemen's Houthi Supreme Revolutionary Committee, led by Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, also condemned the killing, calling it a "heinous terrorist crime" and a violation of fundamental laws and values.
