Bhopal:  Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that Digvijaya Singh was 'panicked' as a result of which he did not cast his vote. Addressing a gathering in Indore, the former Chief Minister said that Digvijaya Singh's failure to cast vote also underlines the distrust within the Congress' state leadership and his attitude towards democracy.

"Diggy Raja (Digvijaya Singh) behaved in a strange manner. He was so panicked that he did not go to cast his vote. Voting is our supreme duty in a democracy. For a person, who was Chief Minister for 10 years, failing to poll his votes shows his attitude towards democracy," Chouhan said. According to the sources, Digvijaya Singh did not cast his vote as he was touring the city as it went to polls on Sunday.

Digvijaya Singh responded to a question on casting his vote saying, "Yes, I couldn’t go to vote in Rajgarh and I regret it. I will register my name in Bhopal next time.”

"I think another reason is that "Diggy Raja" does not trust Kamal Nath. That is why he kept visiting polling stations himself," Chouhan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Congress pitted Digvijay singh against BJP's Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in Bhopal. Bhopal and Rajgarh Lok Sabha constituencies went to polls on May 12 in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
