Parliament Session 2024: Govt to Propose Changes to Wakf Act Today

NEW DELHI: Parliament Session 2024 - In the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, the government is poised to present a significant Bill aimed at amending the Wakf Act of 1995. This Bill is intended to enhance accountability and transparency within Waqf boards and to mandate the inclusion of women in these bodies.

The proposed amendments will require Waqf boards to register their properties with district collectors to ensure accurate property valuations. There are currently 30 Waqf boards operating across the country.

Today's parliamentary activities include:

Rajya Sabha: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will introduce the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, 2024. This Bill seeks to update the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948.

Minister Suresh Gopi will present the CAG report on the Information Systems Audit of selected Central Public Sector Enterprises.

Various Union ministers will lay papers concerning their respective ministries.

Lok Sabha: Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will introduce a Bill for adjusting the reservation of seats for Scheduled Tribes in the Goa Assembly, ensuring better democratic representation.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh will move a motion for electing two members to the National Jute Board.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will propose the election of two members to the Employees' State Insurance Corporation.

Additional papers will be laid by various Union Ministers.

The second session of the 18th Lok Sabha began on July 22 and is scheduled to end on August 12. On July 23, the Finance Minister presented her seventh consecutive Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. This session has seen intense debates, with the Opposition accusing the government of bias against states not governed by the BJP.
