WEST BENGAL; Following the arrest of Partha Chatterjee, the Ex-Trinamool Congress (TMC) Minister reportedly confessed to the involvement of the party high command in the School Service Commission (SSC) scam.
He admitted to investigators that everyone in the TMC, including the senior party leadership, knew about his activities during questioning. He claimed that other TMC members were aware that money was taken in exchange for giving unqualified people jobs at government schools.
He says that he was only the custodian, an Enforcement Directorate representative remarked when discussing the situation. He never requested or accepted payment from candidates. He was acting in accordance with a party directive. He was required to sign documents prepared by others.
"Others also collected the money and sent it to him. He had been told to keep the money in a secure place. Later, hundreds of crores were removed for "party" use. Only a small portion of the money was seized. He has only disclosed this, the official emphasised.
Another central agency employee reported that Partha Chatterjee had admitted that other Departments were involved in giving jobs to unqualified applicants using dishonest tactics.
"It's been said that people paid to get positions on the railroad. He also made reference to a specific Majerhat office where these agreements were made. Partha Chatterjee said, the party took too long to decide on his fate since other leaders were cleaning up their residences. He was left to fend for himself once they wiped their hands off them, the official said.
Partha Chatterjee has also said that prominent Trinamool Congress officials paid visits to the houses he purchased in Arpita Mukherjee's name. He added that the party needs a front, such as an actress, to hide the cash.
