Patriotism is not just chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’: Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi: just chanting "Bharat Mata ki Jai" does not represent nationalism, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, adding real nationalism is to work towards the upliftment of "all 130 crore Indians". Vice President Venkaiah Naidu asked the youth to strive to build up a New India which will be free of fear, corruption, hunger, discrimination, illiteracy, poverty, caste barriers, and urban-rural divide. Talking to the students of Delhi University, Naidu said, "Youth should focus on a new India which is free from corruption, illiteracy, fear, corruption, hunger and caste barriers. Learn to preserve traditional values, remove negativity, develop a positive attitude, socially conscientious, peaceful and affectionate. '

"Patriotism does not mean crying out 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' or crying out 'Jai Hind' after watching a movie," Naidu said, after referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's definition of patriotism where everybody does his/her work dutifully. The Vice President said, 'For the last few years, India is achieving a growth rate of more than 7 percent, the Indian economy is expected to become the third largest in the next 10-15 years. Observing that India was being recognized and respected for its tremendous growth and age-old civilization values, the Vice President said the adoption of UN resolution declaring June 21 as ‘The International Day of Yoga’ by 177 countries was a testimony to India’s growing influence.
