New Delhi: On Monday, One97 Communications, the company behind the Paytm brand, introduced its latest innovation - the Card Soundbox. This innovative device is designed to empower merchants to accept payments via both mobile and card transactions, covering all major networks, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and RuPay.

In India, the UPI payment system has gained immense popularity for digital retail payments, and its adoption continues to surge. These card-based payments, facilitated through a simple 'tap and pay' process, aim to assist merchants in expanding their businesses. With the Paytm Card Soundbox, the company addresses two critical challenges for merchants: the acceptance of card payments and the provision of instant audio notifications for all transactions. It's worth noting that Paytm was a pioneer in introducing audio-based confirmations with the launch of Paytm Soundbox back in 2019.

According to a statement by Paytm, "The introduction of this unique device by Paytm will revolutionize in-store payments by expanding payment acceptance options for merchants. It combines Soundbox technology with NFC or contactless debit and credit card payments, offering both audio and visual payment confirmations through an LCD display for both merchants and customers."

The Paytm Card Soundbox comes equipped with built-in 'tap and pay' functionality, allowing merchants to accept card payments of up to Rs 5,000. This 'Made in India' device operates on a 4G network connection, featuring a 4W speaker and a battery life of five days. Designed with a diverse merchant base in mind, it provides alerts in 11 languages, which can be customized by merchants using the 'Paytm for Business' app. Furthermore, users with NFC-enabled smartphones can also make payments through their phones using the tap feature.
