Mehbooba Mufti on New Kashmir: This is Godse's India, not Gandhi's

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has recently said in a statement that, 'We are living in Godse's India, not Gandhi's, where anti-terrorism laws are being imposed on people to express their views.' She alleged that the Centre has shown Jammu and Kashmir as "peaceful" while the fact remains that blood is being shed on the streets. On 'New Kashmir', Mehbooba said, "My father had seen a leader like Atal Bihari Vajpayee earlier and he hoped that the new BJP government would work on this ideology. The new Kashmir that is being propagated is not the truth. Today, an 18-month-old girl is demonstrating to find the body of her father who was killed by security forces. '

She further asked, 'Today, a Kashmiri Pandit was killed in broad daylight. A Bihari man's blood was shed on the road and we call it New Kashmir?' She also hit out at the Central Government.

Forget 'New Kashmir' and talk about 'New Hindustan', she said. In the new India, every person who talks about the Constitution is given the tag of 'laminated gang', minorities, whether roadside vendors or a film star, are socially and economically excluded, farmers demanding repeal of agricultural laws are called Khalistani and they are booked under UAPA. It may be a new India, but it is not my Gandhi's. It seems to be Nathuram Godse's India and he is making Godse's Kashmir where people do not have the freedom to speak and even I am detained at home for at least two days a week.'
