The state-wide bandh in Andhra Pradesh against the central government's alleged decision to privatize Vizag Steel Plant is going on peacefully in Krishna's Gudivada town. Almost all political parties excluding BJP   have expressed solidarity with the bandh.

Minister for Information and Public Relations Perni Venkataramaiah said on Thursday that the Yuvajana Sramika Raithu Congress government is against the privatization of Vizag Steel Plant and in this regard, Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting alternatives to retain the organization in the public sector.

Since Friday morning, state transport corporation buses were confined to the depots as the minister said that Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation services will be stalled till 1 pm. The staff wearing black badges will resume their duties later on. All the emergency health services are operational as usual.

RTC Buses are confined to bus depots. Government offices remained shut as the state government has announced support to the bandh. Shops and commercial complexes are said to be voluntarily closed. Police are taking precautions to see that no untoward incident takes place.

The Modi government's plans to privatize the Vizag Steel Plant – a major icon of Visakhapatnam in north coastal Andhra Pradesh – has led to protests in the city since last month.
