New Delhi: A total of 170 members have been detained till Tuesday (September 27, 2022) amid the ongoing raids against radical Islamic organization Popular Front of India (PFI) across the country. These arrests have taken place in 8 different states. In view of the situation in Kerala, paramilitary forces are being patrolled in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh.
45 arrests have been reported from Karnataka alone. Two suspects have been detained from Shajpur in Madhya Pradesh and about a dozen from Delhi's Jamia and Shaheen Bagh areas. Around 14 suspects were also reportedly detained during ATS raids in Aurangabad and Nanded in Maharashtra. Raids have also been conducted in Meerut and Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh. According to the information received, the link of PFI has been found with the banned SIMI, fugitive Zakir Naik and terrorist organization ISIS. It is also being told that PFI has resorted to not only Pakistan but also the people of the Middle East to spread instability in India.
According to media reports, the PFI had planned a large scale of violence across the country. Its national president Abdul Rahman was once the national secretary of SIMI. Along with this, another office-bearer of the same group, Abdul Hamid, was also once a member of SIMI. It is alleged that the PFI used to get funding from the Middle East to conduct its terrorist activities. Pakistan used to mediate in bringing it to India. Mohammad Shakib, who is part of the PFI national team, has an important role to play in the operation of this network.
The report revealed that the PFI used to cite lobbying by Pakistanis lodged in Indian jails to extort money from Pakistan. To keep ISIS's activities active in India, Mohideen killed on-duty sub-inspector Wilson at the Kaliakvilai checkpoint in Kanyakumari on January 8, 2021. PFI's Mohammad Shakib later worked on the case for sub-inspector Wilson's killers, including his accomplices.
