Panaji, The directorate of health services (DHS) has upped its efforts in getting malaria and dengue cases under control as monsoon is hitting goa. Though there has been a slight decline in malaria cases during the last few years, dengue cases are slowly increasing.

A health official said "the trend observed with dengue cases in the state is more or less similar to other parts of the country. Yes, there is an increase in dengue cases. Though, we try our best to control the vector-borne disease".

He added, that "the chances are high of more people getting infection in the densely-populated area. The spread of dengue mosquito can be kept under control if its breeding is taken care of at source, itself".

"We repeatedly tell people to keep their surroundings clean to stop mosquitos from breeding. It thrives in both domestic and para-domestic surroundings,"he added.
