Hyderabad: Smoking in public places has been categorized as a crime by the government for a long time, with a provision for fines and jail terms. Now a person is convicted in this case. This is the first incident to punish a person who smokes in a public place in Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana.

According to the information received, Bal Deepak, a resident of NIN Colony of Medipalli was smoking cigarette in front of the house on Wednesday night. Seeing this, the residents of the colony lodged an FIR in the police station. The patrol police arrested him and produced him in court.

The court sentenced Deepak because the witnesses and evidence were found to be correct. Earlier, the court had fined Deepak three times 50-50 rupees. This is the first case in Hyderabad city to punish a person who smokes in a public place.
