PETA slams animal-birds sacrifice during Durga Puja in this state

Guwahati: Hundreds of animals and birds have been sacrificed during Navaratri in Assam this year. In the last three days of the Durga Puja festival, many temples including the ancient Kamakhya temple in Assam and the Burhi Gosani Durga temple in Rani region not only sacrificed vegetables but also animals and birds. Starting from Saturday, this process continued till Monday. Today, with the immersion of the idol of Goddess Durga, this festival will come to an end.

While giving information, the executive committee member of the Burhi Gosani Durga temple said that 15 buffaloes, 20 goats and countless pigeons and ducks have been sacrificed by the devotees on Sunday. He further said that according to Hindu belief, the worship of Goddess Durga is associated with animal sacrifice. Goddess Durga is considered to be a form of Shakti, for which she is offered animal blood.

On the other hand, Bardoloi Mohit Sharma, head of Kamakhya Temple Management, says that sacrificing animals is part of 'daily worship'. When devotees come to sacrifice animals, we cannot stop them. However, PETA India CEO Manilal Vilayate has strongly condemned the animal sacrifice in Assam. He said, there was a time when animals were sacrificed in India, but now that India is on the moon mission, it is not right to adopt ancient traditions.
